Prof. Mervat Abou Oaf Speaker at CEDAW:
Prof. Mervat Abou was invited to be a speaker and a respondent in the plenary session: “ Women’s Leadership Challenges.” within the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in South Africa in July 2016. In her capacity as an expert in media law and policy and as an activist in women’s issues and concerns, Prof. Mervat Abou Oaf was a participant in the workshop “Women and Law,” within the convention’s proceedings. CEDAW is an international treaty adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly. Described as an international bill of rights for women, it was instituted on 3 September 1981 and has been ratified by 189 states.
