Dr. Mervat Abou Oaf: Guest Speaker in the National Forum for Education
Dr. Mervat Oaf, Professor of Practice of Journalism and Mass Communication participated as a guest speaker at the National Forum for Education, in her capacity as an educator in media law and policy. Abou Oaf discussed the Law on the “Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Pygmy Groups” recently issued via a presidential decree by President Abdelfattah al-Sisi regarding rights of the disabled in the Egyptian community, including education. Dr. Abou Oaf discussed the importance of integrating students with disabilities and special needs in regular educational protocols as well as in technical and artistic edification containing technical, literal and athletic practices. As the consultant of the “Board of Directors to the Chamber of Cinema Industry (CCI) in Egypt,” Dr. Abou Oaf also talked about the role of soft power in education to maximize and intensify the impact of literacy and awareness. Abou Oaf highlighted endeavors undertaken to activate regionally and internationally, incorporating the Egyptian identity as a significant cultural and creative component in education. In the process, Abou Oaf emphasized the importance of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank initiated by the Minister of Education and Technical Education Dr. Tarek Shawki, and the development of interactive and collaborative means of the educational mechanisms to be applied in all governorates of the Republic. The event was held on Thursday, 22 February 2018 at Al- Manara Conference Hall in New Cairo.
